When I was talking about a movie made in the 80’s to my boyfriends younger sister, she asked me if it was silent -_-

My favourite Buffy episode, the musical Once More With Feeling, aired in November 2001. Over ten years ago.

More emailed tales of woe.

Me born 1980 My cuz born in 1993 now 18 years old ! Was about 15 at the time when he asked if I had any old high school drumline videos ( he was at the time part of his high school drumline ) He wanted to see the difference between now and then . He asked me if I had any ? I said ” yes ” I handed him a VCR cassette and he proceeded towards the tv were I have of course a VCR and CD/DVD/ blu-ray PLAYER  . As he stood there staring at the VCR I was like ” what are you doing put the tape in ! ” he then said ” what do I do ?? ” I said ” what you don’t know how to use a VCR ?!! ” he says ” no ” I was like “your kidding right ?!! ” he was like ” no ,do I just let it sit there or push the tape in ?” I said ” push the tape in ” as he did and it pulled the tape in he jerked his fingers back thinking they would get stuck !!! And then said does it just play or do I press something ???  Damn I’m old !

I stumbled onto your site today via the Buzzfeed link someone posted on Facebook, suddenly all these random facts occurred to me that I though I would share with you, do with them what you wish.
 
The year I was born 1983: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was released in theatres.
 
1980: CDs were released, 15 years later the 1st MP3 player was released in 1995, four years later Napster was born.
 
1989: the 3rd Indiana Jones movie the Last Crusade was released, 19 years later the 2008 Crystal Skull was released, that was 3 years ago
 
1991: 20 years ago these things occurred

• March of that year the video of Rodney King being beaten is released, the officers responsible will be acquitted the following year, which caused the LA riots
• Also March of that year the Birmingham 6 are released
• June of that year Apartheid is repealed
• Silence of Lambs is released that year

1999:

• It’s been 12 years since the Y2K freak out
• It has been 12 years Since the Slim Shady LP

2000:

• PS2 was released and Elian Gonzalez was shipped back to his father in Cuba, he is now 18
• the First X-Men movie was released, hooray Wolverine!

2001 - the year I graduated High School:

• You can not go anywhere there is a teenage girl without encountering Backstreet Boys or N’Sync they even performed together one time only on an award show
• Lady Marmalade won video of the year at the MTV Video Awards (american version)
• Mariah Carey releases Glitter - and has a weird visit on TRL
• The Spice Girls broke up, 6 years later they got back together 2007 that was 4 years ago
• Lizzie McGuire premiered on the Disney Channel, she is currently expecting her first child at the age of 24 she was 14 when the show aired
• Smallville debuted this year, and ended 10 years later in 2011

 
My Grandmother had a rotary phone until 2004 - she also still has a record player that has an 8track player built into it

Yep.  that was in 1997.  Fourteen years ago.

In a fifth grade class we were discussing the musical heritage of Macon, GA.  I was referring to Otis Redding, Little Richard and the Allman Brothers.  A students said, “I love Oldies…like Friday Night Eighties on Star 94!”  To compound the pain of this incident;The student in question is now a Junior in college.

The Karate Kid is 50.  FIFTY!!!!!!!

Muppet Christmas Carol will be 20 next year.  That means that people born after this film came out are old enough to have children that are old enough to tell you that their parents weren’t born when this film came out. 

Someone ended a sentence the other day with “… and I mean it!” and I followed up with “Anybody want a peanut?” in a really low gravelly voice.  After several seconds of awkward silence I said that it was from the Princess Bride.  More awkward silence.  “You know… the movie.”  Then one of the twenty-somethings around me said, “Oh yeah, I think my grandma has that movie.”

Sigh.
